About

Hello!

Welcome to that bit where I tell you all about me.

I am an energetic Cambridge University student. I hail from the good ol’ US of A. My undergrad was spent at Creighton Univeristy in Omaha, NE, where I studied journalism and politics.

In January 2009, I was awarded the Davies-Jackson Scholarship. The Davies-Jackson allows me to study at Cambridge for two years, covers all costs, and provides an additional stipend so I can travel Europe.

Suffice to say, this scholarship changed my life!

So I packed up my bags and headed across the pond. Goodbye Nebraska, hello Hogwarts!

I’m also a media professional. I have worked in Doha, Qatar for ABODE Magazine; in England for Wink’d Ltd and 100 Thousand Club Magazine; and in the US with US Strategic Command.

As I work at ABODE Magazine in Doha, Qatar

In my spare time, I like to swim, shoot, fence, run and fall off horses with the Cambridge University Modern Pentathlon Club (CUMPC).

Life is amazing and wonderful, and I am generally pretty awestruck with how blessed I have been.

So go ahead and subscribe. I promise I’ll do my best to keep things interesting ;) .

  1. I MUST check out that Whole Foods then! I am going crazy here… we have a great little health foods shop right down the street, but it’s about the size of a walk-in closet ;) Thanks for the advice!

  2. haha i live in hampshire and everyone always says when they come over how theres hardly any health food shops :p

  3. Hey!
I stumbled on your blog through graduatemeghann. What a coincidence, I live in Cambridge also! I recently moved here from the US to study for an MPhil degree. My course is only 1 year, but I may be staying on for my PhD.
It IS rainy and cold here, but the city is beautiful!
It seems like you’re having a wonderful time here, as well!
    Best,
    Emily

    • Wow! That’s great. What degree? I heard it snowed a couple days back… guess I’m glad to have missed it :D

      • An MPhil in Linguistics. It did snow, sometime last week–only a few inches. But, it’s enough to completely through off walking, biking, and getting anywhere in due time. I wish I missed the snow, too!! But, I can’t complain too much, since it snowed it hasn’t rained! :)

  4. Found this blog on the web when searching for Abode magazine. Do you know where I can get this months new issue, it has my sister’s house
in New Zealand in it that I wouldn’t mind looking at the photos.

Festive wishes for the season from

-also. your necklace with the blue dress, so cute! I think since you have like all of my jewery, you should leave your lil sis some of your jewery. Only fair.
    love you!
    xoxo.

  7. Hello Danae,

I went to Creighton and lived in Cambridge for about a year (though I am back in Omaha now). Lisa Brockhoff suggested I might get in touch with you, for networking and so forth.

    Kind regards,

    Shane

  8. hi Danae, i just read your entry about the hippy commune. I had been looking up things about why people would want to not be a hippy, and i found your article. right in the middle – you mentioned my town! i was so surprised! i’m born and raised and still in Omaha, and it made it that much better to be reading something from someone that has lived here. My sister is a hippy. she smokes weed all the time, not just for fun, and tries hard drugs, and hangs with hippy druggie lazy losers, and is about to leave town in a van to travel and sell hippie crap. as you put it, “my sister is the love of my life” as well. i want desperately to get her safely out of this unhealthy life-style. was looking to see what sort of things might slyly guide her to live an exciting wonderful adventurous and fulfilling life. once i saw you were from o-town, i had to read your about me section…and girl, you are the person i want my little sister to be. if you pray, say a prayer for her. if you have any tips about how to get a hippy to not want to be a hippy then email me. i duno, just thought i’d thank you for your post really. i just want my baby sis to be safe and happy, and it helps to see someone who has been where she wants to be and is now where she will want to be.
lots of love from “back home” haha.

    Krystal
